Ok, that subject line didn't come out right.
I recently read an interesting fact: No male Kenyan has won Gold in the Olympic Marathon.
These guys DOMINATE the sport. Own the World record. But yet, in all these years, not a single Gold medal.
What's up with that?
And they will be denied Gold again this year, right? The Americans, namely Ryan Hall, are going to kick butt out there!

That's interesting, I wonder if the top Kenyans don't go, because they rather have the cash than some gold medal.

Maybe because Kenyans run for the money, and you don't win any money for the Olympics?

money and politics...who do you send???
I used to love it back east...the Kenyans and the Russians had training camps in Philly or somewhere like that. They'd but money on a race and two Kenyans and one Russian would come down and take the money and go home. Kenyans one and two, Russian third. Pretty boring. Why not just give them the money and let the locals win the races? It was impressive that they never had a bad day...they always won. Never the Russian, never a local. But they had no master runners ever. Don't Kenyans run past their prime???

For a minute there I thought someone was going to start choking those poor Kenyans - all the ones I've met so far are so nice (Tegla) I tend to agree with the consensus. There's not much money involved in winning the Olympic marathon. This is unlike some of the other Olympic sports have huge money aspects involved with them from future endorsements & appearance fees.

But if they kick serious a$$ in the Olympics maybe there would be a Gatorade or some similiar endorsement in the future. Who knows?

There's no prize money, sponsorships and stuff is probably a different story.
But - I think what is more important to them is country pride. I'm sure they really want to beat the Ethiopians.

I'm not so sure on that theory Don. They really do run for money.....look what they came from and what they use it for. I can't blame them. They don't really have a lot of country pride, well country yes,m gevernment of their country no .....look at what a mess their country is in and how they are refusing to do the Olympics despite their country saying they have to run.
